AUSTIN, Texas -- The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced that it has elected Bill Carney of Texas Instruments as its new Chairman. Carney has served as Vice Chair of the organization since 2003 and succeeds outgoing Chairman Dennis Eaton of Conexant. Eaton will continue to be involved with the organization as a board member representative of Conexant.

"I am honored to take over the reigns of such a well-respected and successful organization," said Carney. "The Wi-Fi Alliance has taken great strides to enhance the user experience of wireless LANs and to promote Wi-Fi(r) as the WLAN standard across the world. I look forward to helping promote the technology even further and increase the public's knowledge of new, exciting ways of using Wi-Fi within the home and enterprise markets," continued Carney.

"I am extremely proud of the progress that the Alliance has made over the past two years," said Eaton. "In my two years as Chairman, it has been exciting to watch Wi-Fi's presence grow throughout the home, enterprise and public access markets. I am confident that Bill Carney will bring to the Alliance the necessary leadership to grow the Wi-Fi brand even further," continued Eaton.

Carney is currently Senior Director of Strategic Marketing and Business Development for Texas Instruments' Wireless Networking Business Unit. He previously served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Alantro Communications, which Texas Instruments acquired in September 2000.
