Urban Design
I think this is the work that alot of urban designers do at consultation meetings with the public. Its about defining the objectives for an area, what green initiatives can be adopted successfully and how can new development be integrated and powered sustainably. These kind of meetings will become more common as the century pans out in my opinion, as fundamental shifts in power and energy generation are adopted on a wider, even national scale.

Re: SF Ecodistrict
Hi, alankravitz. Thanks for your feedback. We have a couple of other pieces on the site from earlier on that I believe define the concept better, including this video blog from John Dalzell of the Boston Redevelopment Authority; and this blog from Rob Bennet, the CEO of EcoDistricts.

Also, we interviewed Rob Bennett on our radio show and he discusses what EcoDistricts is, both the model, as well as the organization itself. You can hear the archived audio here.

Hope this helps!
