[Cairo, Egypt, Feb 19, 2024] Recently, Telecom Egypt, a leading telecommunications company in Africa, announced that it completed the region’s first DWDM 1.2Tbps channel trial with Huawei, marking an important milestone of optical transmission in addressing ever-growing demand for data and connectivity in the region, laying a solid foundation for the transformation of Egypt into a digital society.

Telecom Egypt has played a pivotal role in driving growth within the local ICT market capitalizing on its vast infrastructure, have proactively been developing and investing in state-of-the-art, reliable and enabling ICT infrastructure, and broadening its services to meet the evolving needs of customers. The company is supporting Egypt’s digital transformation plans through its strategic vision of a five-level “digital pyramid”, submarine cables (international cable infrastructure) and fiber connectivity serve as the foundation. Telecom Egypt has built the leading high-capacity and high reliable optical networks in Egypt, empowered by 400G/800G, Super C band and Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) solutions.

This technical achievement demonstrated that the 1.2Tbps coherent solution has met commercial deployment requirements in terms of transmission reach, spectral efficiency, latency and system energy consumption. The 1.2T coherent module, verified in this trial, is empowered by built-in high-baud rate bandwidth modulator, stat-of-art non-linear compensation algorithm, and intelligent neuron function module to sense the complex link environment in an actual network in real time, and quickly optimize the network transmission performance.

" Telecom Egypt has always been keeping abreast of the latest, top-notch technologies and trends in the industry," said Eng. Adel Hamed, managing director and CEO at Telecom Egypt. "Introducing DWDM 1.2T per channel technology together with Huawei is fully aligned with our commitment to bringing next-generation technologies and smart connectivity to boost the digital capabilities of Telecom Egypt's customers and partners. "

"We are delighted to witness the successful trial of 1.2Tbps solution in Telecom Egypt DWDM network" said Victor Zhou, President of Huawei's Optical Transmission Domain. "Huawei will continue to collaborate closely with Telecom Egypt to build a best-in-class, high-speed, low latency and high availability optical network, helping Telecom Egypt achieve more business success."
