Flashwave OADX now carries 1.76 Tbit/s of traffic at distances up to 1,500km; Flashwave 320G supports up to 1.2 Tbit/s in C and L bands

BALTIMORE – NFOEC – Carriers with terrestrial optical networks no longer have to sacrifice capacity for distance. Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. today announced its FLASHWAVE OADX--the world's largest capacity, commercially available long-haul DWDM system--now carries 1.76 terabits per second of bi-directional traffic and distances up to 1,500 kilometers (km) without regeneration. Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE OADX will carry up to 80 channels of 40 gigabit per second (Gbps) transmission a full 1,500 km without regeneration. The overall system's ability to carry up to 1.76 terabits per second of bi-directional traffic is 10 percent more capacity than the next leading competitor. "As communications becomes more globally oriented, carriers are continually looking for ways to carry more traffic longer distances. The capacity of the FLASHWAVE OADX meets the needs of even the highest traffic networks and its reach helps reduce transmission costs, by far the largest network expense," says Andrew McCormick, senior analyst with the Aberdeen Group. In a separate release:Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. today launched a new version of its highly scalable dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform, the FLASHWAVE(R) 320G, that offers carriers a simple and cost-effective pathway to increased capacity on a single DWDM platform for regional long-haul applications. Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE 320G is a complete, end-to-end DWDM platform, composed of 40- or 320-gigabit architectures in a single shelf. The platform supports up to 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) of traffic by using both the C-band and the L-band, and can transmit data in spans exceeding 600 kilometers (km), without regeneration. Its signal optimization system allows carriers to add channels as needed. The platform's spectrum analyzers and variable attenuators recalibrate the network automatically when new wavelengths are provisioned, accelerating the overall turn-up process and helping carriers provision services quickly and cost-effectively."Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE 320G platform provides carriers with a cost-effective entry into DWDM for regional long-haul applications," said Bill Erickson, senior vice president of product planning at Fujitsu Network Communications.
