Moto, Intel Team on IMS

SAN FRANCISCO -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced a joint effort with Intel Corporation to create a proof of concept for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network functions based on Motorola's AdvancedTCA(R) Avantellis(TM) communications server.

This joint effort is expected to stimulate IMS application development, enabling telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) and their service provider customers to deliver new and differentiated multimedia communication services over converged networks faster, more cost effectively and with greater scalability and flexibility than with proprietary technologies. Using open, standards-based communications servers as the foundation for IMS network elements will help accelerate the deployment of the infrastructure to realize Motorola's vision of seamless mobility.

The IMS communications server proof of concept will showcase a pre- integrated Open Application-Enabling Platform from Motorola, including AdvancedTCA blades with Dual Low Voltage Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processors and Intel(R) IXP2850 network processors, Carrier Grade Linux and Motorola's NetPlane(R) high service availability software, validated with IMS software from independent vendors.

The proof of concept will be shown in Intel Modular Communications Platform Solution Centers around the world and will be available for TEMs to evaluate the communications server approach and the standards-based technologies it incorporates. Motorola and the ecosystem participants will incorporate customer and market feedback on the proof-of-concept into its future product planning activities.

Today, Motorola also announced that it has become a Premier member of the Intel(R) Communications Alliance. The Intel Communications Alliance is a community of communications and embedded developers and solution providers committed to the development of modular, standards-based solutions based on Intel technologies. Previously, Motorola was an Associate member.
