Mobile networks have demanding power requirements, with radio networks contributing to almost three-quarters of the total power consumption. Prior to joining Heavy Reading, Ruth worked in mobile and fixed network research and design for BT for over 20 years. Her research interests have included convergence, mobile QoS, network slicing, private networks, cloud native mobile core technology and automation. She has filed more than 40 patents on both real world applications and enhancements to mobile core networks. Ruth is an advocate for women in engineering.

Rimma Iontel, Chief Architect - Global Telco Telecommunications, Entertainment and Media Technology, Strategy and Execution Office, Red Hat, Inc.
Rimma Iontel is a Chief Architect in Red Hat's Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment (TME) Technology, Strategy and Execution office.  She is responsible for supporting Red Hat’s global ecosystem of customers and partners in the Telecommunications industry and also represents TME in the CTO Customer-led Open Innovation organization.  Since joining Red Hat in 2014, she’s been assisting customers and partners in their network transformation journey, helping them leverage Red Hat open source solutions to build future-proof telecommunication networks capable of providing modern advanced services to the consumers in an efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective way.

Rimma has over twenty years of experience working in the telecommunications industry. Prior to BT, he worked as a senior technical marketing engineer with Cisco within the small cells technology group and as an RF systems engineer with Ubiquisys, a small cell startup company that Cisco Systems subsequently acquired. He holds PhD and MSc degrees from the University of Surrey, Guildford.
