Just like Auckland, Sydney got its highest marks for Smart Living (2nd amongst these cities) and Smart People (4th).
Sydney excels in fostering an innovation economy. The Innovation Cities Index ranked Sydney as the 20th most innovative city in the globe out of more than 300 cities.

Similarly, another interesting study, which focused on ranking 20 global cities on their entrepreneurial ecosystems, ranked Sydney’s ecosystem 12th, making Sydney the only city on this list besides Singapore (17th) to make that Top 20 ranking.
One major concern I have for Sydney is its climate. Without a doubt, Sydney's approximately 27 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per capita, per year, make it the biggest per capita contributor to climate change by far amongst the cities in this ranking's Top 10. Australia as a whole is one of the biggest contributors to climate change on a per capita basis, so all of its major cities face this uphill battle. Sydney will struggle to move up in any benchmarking of major cities that factors in emissions, until it takes more aggressive measures to spawn a low-carbon economy.
