Tropic Demos Wavelength Tracker

OTTAWA -- Continuing its leadership in wavelength intelligent networking, Tropic Networks will be demonstrating the industry's first metro-optical management capability at next month's NFOEC. Tropic's Wavelength Tracker is a revolutionary wavelength-tracking technology that is integrated into the company's TRX-24000 metro-optical transport platform. The technology identifies and tracks individual wavelengths, even multiple instances of the same wavelength, traveling within a Metro Area Network (MAN). Wavelength Tracker also enables carriers to detect faults and power degradations, before service is affected. "Wavelength Tracker is an industry first technology that leverages SONET familiarity to deliver advanced optical layer management for OADM/DWDM metro-optical networks," said Ben Baque, vice president and co-founder, Tropic Networks. "It provides carriers with tools for the optical layer that are similar in effectiveness to those at the SONET layer. As a result, Tropic is providing carriers with the ability to increase their operational ability, reduce the cost of network maintenance and improve their response and resolution time." Wavelength Tracker provides management information without converting the signal from optical-to-electrical and back again, thereby enabling carriers to reduce the number of transponders they would otherwise require. This reduction enables carriers to reduce metro-optical network deployment costs by at least 50%. The power-monitoring capabilities give carriers the ability to detect problems in the optical network identifying specific nodes and isolating faults at the rack, shelf, slot, and port level, all from the network operations center. This reduces the time and expense associated with troubleshooting and truck rolls. Tropic Networks will be demonstrating the TRX-24000 and Wavelength Tracker at NFOEC, booth #1113, September 15th-19th.
