Terayon Unveils Access Platform

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Telecom Carrier Solutions business unit of Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN) today announced the commercial rollout of its MMAP (Multi-function, Multi-service Access Platform) initiative for CLECs, independent carriers, IXCs and ILECs. At the heart of the MMAP initiative is the MainSail 8000, the company’s flagship system for the telco market. The MainSail 8000 provides a bridge between Metropolitan Area and local access networks, enabling carriers to deliver the widest range of optical and copper-based voice and data access services with the fewest network devices.

The MainSail 8000 sets a new industry precedent for integration with its ability to support multiple different voice and data facilities and transport protocols. In addition it performs the functions of an optical multiplexer, access aggregation, crossconnect, GR-303 voice gateway, ATM switching and IP routing all in a single, compact platform. As a result, carriers deploying the platform, especially in a multi-services environment, can dramatically reduce equipment, space and operational costs compared with legacy approaches that typically require multiple, standalone devices, often from differing vendors.
