BALTIMORE – NFOEC – LightPointe, a manufacturer and designer of carrier-class optical transmission equipment using free-space optical (FSO™) technology, will demonstrate its first 2.5 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) product this week at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in Baltimore. The FlightSpectrum™ 2.5G is the latest addition to LightPointe’s carrier-class FSO product suite, offering service providers the ability to easily extend metropolitan optical networks without the costs and delays of digging up roads for fiber or acquiring radio frequency licenses. The FlightSpectrum 2.5G, LightPointe’s first product to incorporate the 1550 nm wavelength, has an optimum range of 1000 meters and will be commercially available this fall.LightPointe will provide demonstrations of the FS 2.5G at NFOEC, beginning today through Thursday, at the Baltimore Convention Center. “Carriers with whom we are working closely have asked for increased bandwidth in order to push out their core services,” said Baksheesh S. Ghuman, LightPointe’s Chief Marketing Officer. “FlightSpectrum 2.5G’s flexibility, speed and distance capabilities make it an ideal solution to satisfy customer demand for optical connectivity in applications such as metro network extension, SONET ring closures and Gigabit Ethernet backhaul—not just last mile applications.”LightPointe Communications Inc.
