France Telecom Trials Terawave PON

ATLANTA, GA. -- Terawave Communications, a leading innovator of optical access solutions, announced lab tests for TeraPON(TM) -- its broadband PON (Passive Optical Networking) solution -- with France Telecom R&D, the research center of the leading carrier in France. Terawave now has trials underway with major telecommunications carriers spanning ten countries worldwide. "France Telecom R&D was very interested in testing the advanced features of Terawave's high-speed solution, especially the dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) on PON for future applications," said Chris Pfistner, Vice President of International Business Development at Terawave. "DBA is a requirement for meeting customer needs, such as management of bursty data traffic. Our ASIC-based DBA implementation provides the technology to meet the traffic demands in real time using fast micro-second scheduling." Broadband PON (BPON) is quickly emerging as a networking technology that brings high-bandwidth, fiber optics within the affordable reach of small and medium-sized businesses, apartment complexes and residences. Terawave's TeraPON product family sets the industry standard for BPON technology in speed and flexibility.
