SAN CARLOS, Calif., and ATLANTA -- Supercomm 2001 -- Opthos, Inc., a provider of IP-managed, True Optical(TM) solutions for metropolitan core networks, today demonstrated a next-generation metropolitan network with products from Gotham Networks, LuxN, Inc., Metro-Optix, Nishan Systems and Foundry Networks at SUPERCOMM 2001 in Atlanta. The multi-vendor network shows how carriers today can dramatically improve profitability and scale their networks cost-effectively. Carriers will benefit from lower life cycle costs, decreased service provisioning times, increased flexibility, and improved performance and service quality. "With these outstanding companies, Opthos introduces the first and only True Optical solution empowering carriers to provide exciting new services they have yet to imagine," explained Robert Lundy, president, chief executive officer and co-founder of Opthos. The demonstration metro network consists of a two-fiber ring and three-node Opthos IW(TM)1000 System in the core connected to access rings and edge equipment in Opthos' booth as well as in distant and neighboring booths at the Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome. The interoperability demonstration highlights the following end-to-end solutions being transported over the Opthos True Optical system: high performance Internet routing; high capacity multi-service switching and routing, and efficient switching and transport of storage traffic. The entire network transports SONET OC-3 and OC-48, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, ATM and video traffic. Opthos Inc.
