BALTIMORE – NFOEC – Novera Optics, a developer and manufacturer ofphotonic subsystems for communications equipment suppliers, announced atNFOEC 2001 (National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference) that it has begunshipping its DGEP dynamic spectral equalizer.DGEP equalizers are modular subsystems that provide gain flattening and tiltcontrol in optical networks. The equalizers utilize patented all-fiberacousto-optical filter technology to accomplish dynamic optical filteringin-the-fiber, delivering high performance with low insertion loss. Networkequipment providers can implement dynamic, automatic modification of thespectral gain characteristics of optical amplifiers to compensate for gainshape changes, gain tilt, and accumulated gain ripple. When inserted intothe mid-stage of EDFA line amplifiers, DGEP equalizers compensate forspectral impairments in either the C or L bands."We are excited about the initial response from customers," said KirkFlatow, President and CEO of Novera Optics. "Since we announced availabilityin March 2001, we have delivered evaluation units to customers both in theU.S and abroad. We are now working with these network equipmentmanufacturers to implement dynamic equalizers into their advanced transportsystems. Novera’s DGEP is the simplest and most elegant product to costeffectively address the requirement for spectral equalization in modernoptical networks.”Novera Optics Inc.For more information on NFOEC, please visit the Light Reading NFOEC Site.
