Urband Enables UK Broadband

LONDON -- Urband, London's alternative 'last mile' network provider, today announced the introduction of a simple multi-point contract for connections to its metropolitan network. Under the terms of these contracts, operators (such as DSL, 3G and Wholesale carriers) will be able to purchase broadband capacity between telehotels aggregation points and BT's Digital Local Exchanges (DLE) under one simplified contract. These contracts allow Urband's customers to purchase a number of links each at a fixed charge, and have the ability to add incremental links under the same contract at fixed monthly rates. "Many of Urband's customers require multiple connections across London. However, because capacity requirements are determined by variable end-user demand, these connections need to be flexible. By standardising our approach, customers can purchase services from us safe in the knowledge that our packages will be able to grow with the end user requirements. The multi-point contract allows us to substantially reduce negotiating time and thus speeds up the provisioning of broadband access and services," explained Roger Wilson, CEO, Urband. Urband is currently evaluating over 65 backhaul locations in central London. These will provide multiple data links to backbone networks for DSL, (SDH) Managed Bandwidth and 3rd Generation Mobile Services Providers.
